Today’s Topic: Come and Follow
Scripture: Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus. Luke 5:10–11, NLT

Today’s Word
In today’s Scripture, Peter had been so awestruck by a net-breaking catch of fish after he obeyed Jesus’ word that he fell at Jesus’ feet and said, “Lord, please depart from me. I’m too big of a sinner to be around You. I’m not worthy of Your favor. I’ve lived a rough life and use bad language.” But God was showing us that His blessing is not based on our performance. We don’t deserve His favor, healing, freedom, or mercy. We can’t earn it. It’s the gift of God to be received by faith.

I love Jesus’ response to Peter’s reasons to not accept it. He said, “Don’t be afraid. From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” Beyond the gift of fish, Jesus offered Peter the opportunity to be His disciple. He was saying, “You’re forgiven. You’re worthy. Accept this gift and I’ll make you a history maker.” No wonder Peter left everything and followed Jesus. As with Peter, you may not feel qualified, but don’t let fear or doubt keep you from receiving the greatness God has for you. It’s His gift.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for not just bringing me net-breaking blessings but for calling me to come and be Your disciple. Thank You that Your blessings are not based on whether I am worthy enough to deserve them. I will not let fear keep me from receiving all the gifts You have for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE: Some of the things you’re worrying about, thinking they’re never going to work out, you’re playing the worst-case scenario. God is saying, it’s going to be just the opposite. Not defeat, but victory. Not stuck where you are, but catapulted to a new level. Not broke, but abundant. Not depressed, but great joy.

Now all those lies the enemy is whispering, instead of letting them discourage you, start believing just the opposite. “Well, Joel, you’ve done pretty well, but you’ve gone as far as you can. No thanks, my latter days will be better than my former days. This will be a year of uncommon favor, uncommon opportunity, uncommon influence.” You have to get in agreement with God.

God specializes in turning things around. We see this all through the Scripture. Goliath should have defeated David. He was twice his size, but just the opposite happened. David defied the odds and brought down the giant. The three teenagers should have burned in the fiery furnace, but just the opposite happened. They came out without the smell of smoke.

Paul should have died when a poisonous snake bit his arm, but just the opposite happened. He shook it off, went about his business and never got sick. Moses should have been stuck in the desert after making a mistake and missed his destiny, but just the opposite happened. God came to him in that burning bush and gave him another chance. Moses went on to deliver the Israelites and become a hero of faith.
